Chapter 1

I married a CEO, Fiona Smith, who was beautiful and rich. My mother, Audrey, was very proud of her for a while.

However, after seven years of marriage, our relationship became increasingly dull.

Audrey was seriously ill in the hospital. She wanted to see Fiona and her grandson but was unable to do so. In the end, Audrey left with regret.

I didn't inform Fiona's family. I quietly took care of Audrey's funeral in my hometown, and then called Fiona to file for a divorce.

The provocative voice of Fiona's assistant came from the other end of the phone. "I'm sorry, Mr. Smith. She is very tired and fell asleep at my house. Please don't disturb her."

It wasn't until the next morning that she replied to me with a message indifferently: [As you wish!]

——

A few days later, she came back from a business trip.

When I saw her, I didn't go to her as enthusiastically as before. I just continued watching TV.

"Help me pick out a pair of pajamas. I'm very tired." Fiona ordered me as usual, then took off her clothes and went to take a shower.

There was no one at home, so she took off her clothes one by one and threw them on the ground, revealing her beautiful figure and skin.

If it were in the past, I would definitely not be able to control myself and would go up to her, please her, and take a shower with her.

But now, I had no feelings.

After she finished her shower, she opened the bathroom door and saw me still sitting on the sofa watching TV. She frowned slightly and asked me, "Why didn't you get my pajamas? I'll wear your favorite one with cartoons on it, okay?"

"When are we getting divorced?"

I asked calmly.

"Stop it. It was so late last time you called me that I was already asleep."

Fiona said indifferently, "Erik is my assistant, so it's okay for him to answer my phone. I've already blamed him. Can you stop being jealous?"

"Jealous?"

She thought I was still jealous as before.

But she didn't know that I had been totally disappointed.

"Okay, go get me my pajamas. I'm really tired. Let's go to bed early and go to the hospital to visit Audrey tomorrow," Fiona said.

Her words deeply hurting my heart.

I looked at her coldly. "Visiting Audrey? Where are you going?"

"Hospital, of course."

Fiona said as a matter of course, "Oh, by the way, I also asked around during this business trip. There is a good hospital in other city. I can arrange for Audrey to be transferred there. After all, the medical conditions there are better in all aspects..."

"My mother is dead!"

Before she could finish, I couldn't help but yell.

Fiona was frightened by my screams and trembled...

She looked at me in disbelief, and might even have suspected for a moment that I was cheating on her.

"Audrey...why didn't I know about this?"

Fiona asked.

"Does it still matter now?"

I looked at her and asked coldly, "When my mother was alive, she couldn't even see you and Audrey, but now you say you want to see her! Is it fun to be so hypocritical?"

My roar silenced her.

She didn't say anything else, left the bathroom silently, and went to the cloakroom by herself.

Soon, she was wearing my favorite pajamas with cartoon characters on them, standing in the distance, looking at me and saying, "I'm sorry. I really don't know."

After she said this, she turned and went back to the room.

I felt pain in my heart again...

She and I met in high school. It was funny that we were in the same class in high school, one was the class monitor and the other was the vice-class monitor.

At the beginning, she was always the best student in the class.

Until one day, my total test score was only one point lower than hers.

She took the initiative to challenge me. "Even if there is only one point difference, I will always be better than you, just like I am the class monitor, and you are not!"

I didn't know why she provoked me like this.

But my desire to win was completely aroused.

I spent more time studying every day, and often sent her messages at 11 o'clock at night to ask if she had slept yet.

This greeting was not out of concern for her.

I wanted to confirm how hard she tried.

I wanted to work harder than her, surpass her and prove myself!

She seemed to think the same at that time, and would send me messages asking me if I had slept yet. Although she was a girl, she was very competitive.

We would even stay up until the early hours of the morning, hoping to work one minute harder than the other.

However, everything had its limits. Our vicious competition and lack of adequate sleep only led to daytime sleepiness.

It was okay for a day or two, but no one could stand it for a long time.

Finally, she couldn't stand it anymore and came to me again. "We must make rules. We must go to bed at 10:30 every day. No one is allowed to study for one more minute!"

I looked at her with doubt and said, "I can do it, but I'm afraid you're cheating!"

"What!"

She said disdainfully, "I'm not that serious. If I were to defeat you, I would definitely do it fairly!"

I didn't follow through.

Although at 10:30 every day, we would send each other a message as soon as possible to tell each other that we would stop studying as agreed.

But I still secretly studied for half an hour more, or even read for half an hour more. I always believed that one more minute of effort would definitely be rewarded.

Once again the test finished.

Not surprisingly.

I got two more points than her!

She was very angry, and after school, she asked me to wait for her at the coffee shop outside the school.

As soon as she entered the coffee shop, she tore up the test paper in front of me, then threw the paper in my face, and asked me if I had secretly studied overtime!

Faced with her questioning, I felt a little embarrassed and admitted that I studied half an hour more every day.

I thought she would be even more angry when she heard that, but she left without saying a word.

Until another exam, she still failed to pass it. She cried in the classroom. And our teachers and classmates comforted her.

In the evening, she asked me to meet her in a park.

She asked me again if I had been learning secretly, and I generously admitted that I still studied half an hour more every day.

She cried when she heard this.

Only then did I realize that she was crying because she studied secretly until one o'clock in the morning every day, but was still surpassed by me time and time again.

We were all very naive and silly at that time. I just watched her cry and didn't know how to comfort her.

It was time for another exam.

I deliberately made two mistakes in the answers and lost to her.

These two mistakes were very childish. And I was criticized by the teacher in public and was called to the office for a lecture.

While I was in the office, Fiona took a look at my test paper and knew that I did it on purpose.

She asked me to meet her on the weekend.

But when the meeting time came, she didn't show up and didn't answer my phone calls. I looked for her everywhere and saw that she was blocked by two bastards in an alley.

I rushed to help her regardless of everything, but was beaten and had to be hospitalized.

During those days, she came to visit me in the hospital after school every day, showed me her class notes. We did homework and studied together.

Then, we were admitted to the same university.

She took the initiative to confess to me. She had feelings for me.

After we got together, I realized that her family was rich...
