Chapter 2

I arrived at the company the next day, when a woman had already moved into my private office.

I actually wanted to take the boxes that contained my notebooks and personal belongings that day. But to my surprise, when I pushed open the office door expressionlessly, Camilla Avery, my cousin, looked at me with a smile.

“Katherine, it must be hard to have everything taken away from you, right?"

I didn't want to pay attention to her, but she was playing with a photo frame in her hand, which contained a photo of me and Mike.

She leaned back in her chair, rubbing the photo carelessly while saying, “What should I say? Congratulations on finally getting kicked out? Or should I congratulate your boyfriend for finding another girlfriend?"

I couldn't stand it anymore and slapped her.

She screamed, her face was red and swollen.

Camilla was covering her face, looking very painful when yelling, “Katherine! Just wait, you have nothing now, I wonder what else you can use to fight me. We'll see."

“Haven't you ever heard that those who are barefoot are not afraid of those who wear shoes?"

After saying that, I left the office and saw some employees whispering outside the door. They should have all been fired for being so gossipy.

I strode towards Mike's office, then kicked the door open.

Mike was startled by the loud noise. So, he stood up angrily and looked at me before asking, “What do you want? You're making such a fuss. Do you think you're still the same Ms. Avery?"

I hesitated before speaking, since I didn’t expect Mike would be that cruel.

“Why did you fire me? Give me a reason."

“We have broken up. Do you understand? After the breakup, there is no place for you in this company."

A hint of resentment flashed across his handsome face.

“But I have done nothing wrong. Why are you firing me?"

“Of course, it's to make room for my new girlfriend. You know, right? Camilla and I are together."

“Camilla?"

I was shocked when hearing her name.

Camilla had been uneducated since she was a child. She only relied on her mouth to coax the whole family to love her.

As she and I were of similar age, we had always been the object of comparison among the elders. So, I knew everything about her.

Although I had good grades and never made people worry about my education, Camilla was sweet and could coax people, which made many people love her more than me.

That was why, although I started my own business right after graduation and had already achieved financial freedom, Camilla was still the most beloved person in the family. Even my biological parents loved her more than me.

Then, at that time, she even got my boyfriend’s love and became his lover.

“Camilla is in the same age as you, but she is more considerate than you. She never asks me to talk about work late at night, she also is not as unromantic as you. She will care about me in every possible way. The way that I will never get from you."

My boyfriend's answer left me stunned, as if I was back in my childhood when my parents frowned and scolded me for not being any better than Camilla.

I admitted that I was very busy when I first started my business and was always talking about work, which gave Mike the cold shoulder. However, I had never forgotten any of our anniversaries, I also spent almost all of my time with him whenever I had time.

But in his eyes, I was just a workaholic who didn't care about him at all, so that I was not even as good as Camilla's finger.

“The gift she gave you came from my work. The time she spent with you was earned by my crazy work," I couldn’t help but explain in an angry tone.

Mike frowned and looked at me as he said, “So what? No matter what you say now won't change my mind. Camilla is a thousand times, no, ten thousand times better than you."

I sneered in my heart, I would like to see how your Camilla could help you with the core project without me.

Then, I signed the resignation contract and walked away under Camilla's smug gaze.

But before leaving, I could still hear what Camilla said, “Baby, why did you make her angry and leave? You know, I can't tell my family about this."

Then, Mike replied, “Don’t worry, just tell me if they dare to make things difficult for you."

You two bastards, damn it!
