Chapter 2

During the three years of pestering Daniel, he never responded to my love and was cold and heartless to me from beginning to end, but I still did not hide my love for him.

I thought that even if he was tired of me, he stayed by my side and agreed to get engaged to me because he was grateful and moved by me. At this moment, I realized that from beginning to end, I was just a chess piece that he discarded like a worn-out shoe.

I lay on the ground with a dead heart. The former Thalia gradually died. The bright and beautiful Thalia who loved him like fire died. Daniel killed her with his own hands.

“What if she doesn’t want to give it?”

Lucy’s voice pulled me back from my memories. Not only did she want to know, but I was also waiting for Daniel’s answer at this time.

Time ticked by and the little hope that remained in my heart was completely destroyed with Daniel’s cold voice.

He smiled easily, but his voice was full of coldness. “If she doesn’t give it to me, I will take it. When you recover for a while, I will arrange the operation immediately and won’t put you in danger.”

The moisture that had been turning around in my eyes for countless times finally became unbearable and covered my entire face.

“It’s late. I’ll ask the driver to take you back.”

Lucy looked shy. “But, I want to stay here tonight.”

As she said that, she leaned into Daniel’s arms. “Okay!”

Daniel coaxed patiently, “Reporters love to catch wind and shadows, write nonsense to ruin people’s reputation. Be good, I will let you live here legitimately soon.”

I never knew that Daniel had such a thoughtful side.

Thinking back then, I went back to the Snyder Family with him just after my father’s funeral. The reporters’ hype instantly pushed me to the forefront and Daniel never stood up to say a word for me.

Seeing that the two were about to come out, I hurried into the room, leaned against the door and listened to the movement outside the door.

Not long after, Daniel’s door opened and closed and my body relaxed and slid to the ground.

No wonder he didn’t save me when I was kidnapped and even said he would collect my body.

It turned out that when I saw Daniel running toward me on my deathbed, he didn’t come to save me, but to take my heart to save Lucy.

After a long time, I wiped away my tears and propped myself up.

I had died once. I couldn’t repeat the same mistake again.

I randomly packed a few clothes and stuffed them into the canvas bag and put a power bank in it. I opened the bedside table and found the ID card that had been there all the time.

I didn’t want to alarm Daniel, so I didn’t turn on the light. I turned on the flashlight on my phone and searched the cabinet, under the pillow and in the suitcase, but found nothing.

Just as I was mumbling to myself, Daniel came in at some point, staring at me with a sharp gaze. “What are you looking for?”

I was so scared that I stuttered, “Nothing... Nothing.”

He walked closer step by step, stopped when he was a foot away from me, held my ID card and passport between his fingers and asked, “Looking for them?”

Before I could speak, Daniel pressed on step by step and I retreated uncontrollably with his body pressure until my heels hit the edge of the bed and sat down on the bed.

In the dark, he looked down at me. “Where are you going this time?”

The word “again” reminded me of the time when Daniel went on a business trip to Blaco and I secretly went to find him.

In the middle of the night, I was almost robbed and raped by a drug addict on the street. Fortunately, he arrived in time. That time, Daniel pinched my chin with bloodshot eyes and growled, “If you dare to run around again next time, I will kill you.”

I was so naive at that time. I thought he was just talking nonsense, but now I think Daniel was warning me. Warn me not to run away and put Lucy in danger, otherwise he would kill me and take my heart.
