After I Was Devastated, They Regretted it
Chapter 3
After the nurse gave me new injections, she changed the gauze on my left eye.
Rhett stared at my left eye with a complicated expression while Isaac touched his neck and turned away.
"Abigail, we can provide you with an artificial eye for free."
Suddenly, Nicole let out a cry of pain, clutching her stomach in distress.
Rhett and Isaac turned around instantly and surrounded her nervously.
"It's okay. It's the baby kicking. Rhett, this place feels creepy. Let's go back!"
Nicole suddenly realized something and covered her mouth, looking guilty for having said something wrong.
Isaac threw me a dirty look and helped open the door.
"Someone is eager for us to leave! We better stay out of her sight.
"Almost forgot! She only has one eye left now." he mocked and laughed.
I closed my eyes numbly and faced the wall.
Tranquility settled upon the world around me. I had the most peaceful sleep since I was released from prison.
Half slumber, I felt a head rubbing against my chest.
I let out a scream, but it was silenced by a fierce kiss.
It was Rhett!
His face flushed with redness, and the scent of alcohol emanated from his breath.
"You finally came back. Abby, don't leave me again."
My struggle suddenly ceased.
He always addressed me by Abigail.
In order to make him call me Abby, I once prepared a two-hour birthday party for him in a short skirt in the cold wind.
The people around us began to get excited and encourage us. Rhett's ears turned red, and he only said they were nosy.
At that time, a junior who had a crush on him laughed at me, taunting, "I thought Rhett was crazy about you, but he won't even want to call you by your nickname. I can't wait for the day when he abandons you."
That day arrived, and I was completely abandoned by Rhett.
Rhett wanted to take off my clothes, but I clung desperately to the buttons of my clothing, causing my palms to turn red.
He reacted quickly, and we looked at each other in silence in the dark.
"Ungrateful," he snorted and staggered away, his back looking panic-stricken.
I thought he was drunk.
But after closing my eyes, I couldn't fall asleep again.
I couldn't stay in the hospital any longer, so I went to check out.
"Ms. Johnson, there are some abnormal values in your test report. You must check again," the nurse said.
I refused with a smile, knowing that no matter how many times I checked, it would not change the result.
I knew that my life wouldn't be much longer.
As soon as I reached the side of the road, Isaac hurried over, supporting Nicole.
"Abigail, what the hell are you going to do? Can't you save us some trouble?" Isaac scolded.
"Abigail, you still won't forgive me," said Nicole.
The two of them easily put the blame on me.
"Abigail, Rhett came to see you last night, didn't he?"
As Nicole asked, she took a step forward, covering her face and crying.
"He said he felt bad for you and wanted to get back together with you," she sobbed.
I forced a bitter smile. Nicole thought too highly of me.
She grabbed my hand, pleading desperately, while I could hear the whispers of people around us, cursing me as a mistress.
"Abigail, I can give you all the money, but please don't take Rhett away. The child can't grow up without a father."
Isaac carefully supported Nicole and pushed me towards the road hard.
"Why don't you just die, you bitch!" he cursed.
Suddenly, a car lost control and hurtled towards me.
With no time to react, I could only catch a glimpse of Isaac's outstretched hand and Nicole's sinister grin.
