After I Saved My Alpha, He Rejected Me
Chapter 2
When the banquet finally ended, I walked back to my quarters.
I shut the heavy wooden door and locked it. The room was dark, but I didn't turn on the lights. I sat on the edge of the mattress, laid my hands flat on my knees, and stared at the blank wall.
I gave myself three minutes. Exactly three minutes to grieve.
For three minutes, I let the silence crush me. I let myself feel the hollow thud in my chest, the sheer disbelief that the man whose life I bought with my own marrow had handed my crown to an Omega who had never bled a day in her life. No tears fell. My chest just felt vast, empty, and cold.
When the three minutes were up, I stood up.
I walked over to the dresser and slid open the bottom drawer. Tucked beneath a stack of plain training shirts was a small glass frame. Inside was a single pressed sprig of white jasmine.
It was the scent I was born with. The scent Sterling once buried his face in every night, whispering that the Moon Goddess had made me just for him.
I looked at the delicate, dried petals for a long time. Then I turned the frame face down and slid the drawer shut.
The grief was over. Now, there was only business.

At dawn, I used the pack’s emergency chime to summon an assembly at the training grounds.
By seven, hundreds of wolves had gathered. The morning air was biting, mist clinging to the dirt. Sterling strode onto the field with Kalani hovering at his side. He wore an irritated frown, clearly expecting me to beg for my position back.
I stood alone in the exact center of the sparring circle, right where he had ordered me to submit yesterday.
The crowd went dead quiet as Sterling stepped forward. "Giselle, what is this nonsense? If you're here to apologize—"
"I, Giselle Weaver," I said, my voice cutting through his words like a blade, "Luna of the Silverfang Pack, reject you, Alpha Sterling Harrison, as my mate."
Gasps erupted across the yard. Kalani’s mouth fell open.
Sterling froze, his face draining of color. "Giselle, shut your mouth—"
"I reject the bond," I continued, staring directly into his widening eyes. "I reject your claim, your title, and your bed."
The words triggered the ancient magic.
A searing, blinding agony tore through the center of my chest. It felt like someone had driven an iron hook into my soul and ripped it backward. My vision flared white. My knees buckled beneath me, trembling violently under the weight of the Moon Goddess’s severed cord.
Sterling stumbled, clutching his heart with a ragged gasp.
*Stand,* I told my wolf. *Do not let him see you fall.*
Gritting my teeth until iron flooded my tongue, I forced my legs straight. I stood tall, the agony roaring through my veins, but my expression never broke.
"The rejection is spoken," I said, my voice cold and steady. "Now, we settle the severance."
Sterling looked stunned, shaken by the sheer political blow of a public rejection. If an Alpha’s mate openly cast him aside without contest, pack law entitled her to dispute his rule. He couldn't afford that. Not with his position so fragile.
"What do you want?" he rasped, his hand still pressed over his chest.
"Full hunting rights to the western border ridge for six months," I said. "Three crates of rations, medical supplies, and five thousand dollars in cash. And one more thing." I took a single step closer to him. "Your absolute silence. You will never speak of my medical history or the blood-marrow bond to another living soul. If you claim my changes were a defect, I will drag this pack before the Lycan High Council for a formal audit."
Sterling swallowed hard. The threat of a Council audit terrified him. It would expose how weak his wolf had become before I saved him.
"Agreed," Sterling choked out. "Take what you want and leave."
I didn't say another word. I turned on my heel and walked off the training grounds. I didn't look back.

I packed my truck and cleared the territory line before noon.
Word reached me through the border network within the week. Sterling had unleashed his anger on anyone who dared cross him. Gamma Cord and the three warriors who had stood up for me were stripped of their ranks, stripped of their pack rights, and formally banished into the wilderness as rogues. Sterling thought throwing them away would prove his strength. It only proved his fear.
He didn't know that back at the pack clinic, Pack Healer Maren Holt was making her own move.
Maren, who had shoved every needle into my bones and documented every drop of marrow I surrendered, quietly made a full copy of my medical records. She stamped them, sealed them in a lockbox, and sent them to a neutral-territory archive where Sterling’s authority could never touch them.
She told no one. But the truth was safe, waiting in the dark.
And as I pointed my truck east, leaving the West Coast behind, my wolf stirred in my chest.
She was big. She was scarred. And she was finally free.
