Before I knew it, their clothes and towel were strewn across the floor, and they lay naked together on the couch. The sight of Steve and Kelsey in such an intimate embrace was more than I could bear.
"Wait," Steve stopped just as he was about to insert himself in her. "What about Emma? What if she comes in here and sees us?"
"I don't think she's going to come back... not now, of course. But it's fine if you don't want to do it," she said, fake pouting.
"No, no, I want to do it. She doesn't matter anymore."
Yes, I'm well aware I don't matter, husband. No, I can't watch this. The pain of betrayal slicing through me. It hurt too much to see the man I loved, my husband, in the arms of another woman.
I was about to drift away, desperate to escape the scene, when Steve's phone started ringing. The persistent tone filled the room, and he ignored it at first, too engrossed in his moment with Kelsey. But the call kept coming, pulling him back to reality until he finally got off Kelsey in frustration.
"Hello, who’s this?" he answered, annoyance evident in his voice.
"Is this Mr. Steve Harrington?" the voice on the other end asked, formal and grave.
"Yes," Steve replied.
"We need you to come to the morgue to identify a body," the voice continued.
"Body?" Steve's face paled as the word hung in the air.
"Yes, We suspect it's the body of your wife, Emma Harrington..."
