Chapter 2

I froze in place, unable to believe that he still didn't believe me.

I did not have any involvement in the incident of Anne falling into the water, because no matter how much I disliked her, I would never kill a woman. Yet Oliver was sure I schemed shamelessly to kill his beloved first love. But I really did not do it.

Oliver said that I cherished my life too much and that once I got out, I would definitely cry and kneel to beg them for forgiveness.

I think part of his statement was right; I did value my life. When he locked me in the water dungeon, afraid I might find a way to escape, Oliver deliberately used thick iron chains to bind my hands and feet, forcing me to keep my arms raised day and night so the blood in my body couldn’t circulate normally.

Considering my seven-month pregnancy, I pleaded, "Please, at least the baby is innocent. If this goes on too long, something will definitely happen to the child!"

He replied, “Did you think about the child when you harmed Anne?”

"I didn't do anything!"

But he did not believe me.

In panic, I had no choice but to admit to the crime I did not commit and beg him to let me out. But Oliver coldly said, “You’re too noisy. Lock the cell door and don’t let her annoy Anne again.”

I cried until my voice was hoarse, but all I could do was watch helplessly when he personally locked the water dungeon and left. And I, too, closed my eyes forever in endless agony.

“Let Isabel out. She may have made a mistake, but since Anne is generous, I won’t hold it against her,” Oliver said casually, not noticing the stiffness in his assistant’s expression.

Anne, who was clinging to him, coaxed with a sweet voice, “After my sister comes out, you mustn’t be angry with her anymore. Be a good boy and I’ll make you a little cake."

Oliver looked so touched. “You’re so understanding!”

Yeah, she is so understanding!

I laughed mockingly as I recalled how the conflict between me and Anne started this time.

Anne had insisted on renovating the swimming pool so Oliver could teach her to swim. I was forced to supervise the site for her, though I was heavily pregnant. She suddenly approached me and deliberately asked, “Your husband cares so much about me that he even made you supervise the work while pregnant. Aren't you angry at all?”

She wanted to provoke me into going into labor early, but my cold attitude made her angry. So, she “accidentally” jumped into the water after I left and soaked for half an hour … and "happened" to faint when Oliver happened to pass by the pool.

Then the first thing she did when she woke up was cry to Oliver, “It's not my sister's fault!”

Anne deliberately said, “My sister just loves you so much that she would go to any lengths to scheme against me. Don't blame her; I'm fine!”

Though she claimed to be fine, tears streamed down her face. My blind husband tenderly comforted her, asking if she was okay. Meanwhile, I just stood nearby, feeling like an outsider.

At that time, I still didn’t take it seriously. Someone who was accustomed to being wronged would not even feel it anymore. However, I never expected he would be so ruthless toward me.

After I was locked in the water dungeon, I cried and begged him, but Oliver just furrowed his brows and said, "Your one act of selfishness nearly cost my Anne her life!”

Even now, Oliver still was not content. He sits high on his “throne,” waiting for me to come to him and apologize. However, he would never get that chance. Oliver, I’ll never have the chance to apologize to you.

The assistant suddenly ran in in a panic, his voice trembling with a hint of tears. “Sir… Madam… she’s passed away!”

Oliver froze for a moment. It seemed unprepared for this turn of events. I stared at him intently, thinking that after all these years, he couldn't possibly remain unaffected by my death. Because if that were the case, I would be truly pitiful.
