Chapter 2

"My lawyer will be here in half an hour. You can talk to him then," I said.

With that, I turned away and headed to the corner where I had left the suitcase I had packed earlier.

A pitch-black Rolls-Royce Phantom was already waiting quietly for me downstairs.

Adrian Collart, our family's butler, opened the car door for me. With a bow, he greeted, "Welcome home, Ms. Simmon."

I nodded at the older man, handing him my suitcase before slipping inside the car.

As Adrian shut the door, I spotted Lucas and his friends crowding around the window, their eyes wide and jaws dropped like fools. They were standing so close that their faces were practically up against the glass.

Lucas' expression went from shocked to lost, then finally, panicked. As though trying to bolster his own courage and protect what remained of his dignity, he bellowed at his friends, "It's just an act! That must be a rented car! Just you wait and see! She'll come crying back to me within three days!"

The smile curving my lips became even sharper.

"Lucas Gardner, enjoy your blustering for what it's worth and while you still can. Because starting from tomorrow, you won't even have that right," I thought.

The inside of the car was so silent that there was only the faint whistling of the air conditioning.

I leaned back against the genuine leather seats and shut my eyes.

After seven long years, I was finally returning to the world I belonged to.

Adrian opened the car door before moving to stand aside respectfully.

When I exited the car, my father, Theodore Simmon, was already waiting for me by the front doors. His eyes instantly reddened when he saw me.

"To think that my daughter would be humiliated by that ungrateful wretch for seven entire years!"

My older brother, Caleb Simmon, shoved a glass of warm milk into my cold hands. His gaze was as sharp as daggers as he asked, "Tania, tell me, how would you like Lucas to pay?"

Cradling the warm glass, I shook my head. The dust of humility that had settled over my eyes in the past seven years had now been replaced with chilling frost.

"No need, Caleb. This time, I want to take action personally. I want him to know that everything he's ever prided himself on is nothing but child's play to me."

I took off the plain clothes I had been wearing for the past three years and tossed them in the trash, then changed into a tailored white Chanel dress. After that, I walked toward a mirror and took a good look at myself.

The woman staring back at me had perfect makeup and a cool, detached gaze, her presence once again that of a heiress to a prestigious family.

Gone was the lowly Natania of the past seven years, the one who endured everything in silence and whose world revolved around her husband and the kitchen. She had been thoroughly buried, left in the past.

I, Natania Simmon, heiress to the Simmon family, was back.

Meanwhile, Lucas was currently experiencing a small earthquake in his world.

My lawyer had come with two bodyguards and kicked him out of the house with professional efficiency. All of Lucas' so-called friends had also fled, running faster than they ever had. Only Winona remained behind, clinging to him while wailing.

"Luke, how could they do this to you? This is your home!"

Anxious and frustrated, Lucas fished out his car key and pressed a button. Not far away, the headlights of a BMW X5 flashed.

He yanked open the car door, planning on taking Winona to a hotel for now. All the while, he was cursing me, "Damn it, that crazy bitch! I'm definitely teaching her a lesson when I get back!"

However, he had barely driven out of the neighborhood when the dashboard suddenly went dark, and the engine stopped working. Like a hunk of scrap metal, the car stopped right there in the middle of the road. No matter how hard he tried, the engine refused to start up again.

Several minutes later, a tow truck arrived. The two men inside it didn't even consult him before hooking the car up and getting ready to tow it away.

Seeing that, Lucas charged over to confront them. "What are you doing? This is my car!"

The driver, with a cigarette dangling from his lips, simply glanced at him before showing him the work order on his phone.

"We're here under Ms. Simmon's orders. She says she doesn't want this car anymore, so we're supposed to tow it away to be scrapped."

Just like that, Lucas and Winona were dumped by the busy roadside like two abandoned dogs.

The night was cold, and when a strong gust of wind blew by, their situation became even more miserable.

Winona's sobbing grew louder. "Luke, my handbag is still in the car! It's the Hermes bag you bought for me just last month!"

Beyond frustrated and annoyed, Lucas snapped at her, "Stop crying! Is that all you know how to do? This is all your fault!"

Even then, he still thought I was just throwing a tantrum—making a big deal out of nothing, as I usually did.
