Chapter 2

"Honey, are you kidding me? How can a man get pregnant?"

"Since you can't have children, there's no room for negotiation. We won't have children."

Amy advised, "Yuki, Your dad and I are old. Our only wish is to have a grandchild. Don't worry. You just need to give birth, and we'll help you take care of the baby. It won't affect your work."

Not bothering to talk to Amy, I said directly to Gavin, "Before getting married, you kept emphasizing that we should split the bills and that men and women should be absolutely equal, but it was based on the premise that we have no child. If I give birth, will you still split the bills with me?"

"I'll split the cost of giving birth with you. I won't let you pay for it alone."

He said so matter-of-factly that I almost laughed out of anger.

"Then how do you share the economic loss caused by my inability to work during my pregnancy? Can you bear half of the pain I will have to endure in pregnancy and breastfeeding? And how do you calculate the impact of pregnancy and childbirth on my career?"

Gavin looked embarrassed. He thought for a long time before saying. "Well, I won't split the cost with you when you are pregnant, and I'll support you. After the baby is born, we may continue to go Dutch."

I applauded. "You are so generous! How could I have been so blind to fall in love with you! I impossibly have a child, and the AA system is unfair to me."

"Why is it unfair?"

"You share all the expenses with me, but what about the housework? Why do I have to cook and mop the floor, while you just leave after dinner without washing the dishes? Do you think you're the boss?"

Gavin looked embarrassed, "I did the laundry."

"You just threw the dirty clothes into the washing machine. Every time it finished, you asked me to hang them up. How could it mean washing??"

"We're married. You're actually too fussy!"

"How could you fucking say I'm fussy? You asked me to pay more even when I just poured too much vinegar. So, who is fussy?"

Gavin looked unhappy, but I continued.

"When we got married, you didn't give me any engagement gift, and I paid for the house in half. After marriage, we shared all the expenses. Why should I serve you like a nanny? Even a nanny, you have to pay her."

Gavin couldn't convince me, so he started to coax me, "Honey, I know you have contributed a lot, and I'll help you with housework."

"What do you mean? Help me with housework? Aren't you a member of this family?"

"Don't be angry, honey. I'm wrong. From now on, you cook and I mop the floor."

"You're really picky. You didn't even mention buying food, trimming vegetables, and washing dishes. Let's take turns for absolute fairness. Today you'll be responsible for cooking and cleaning, and tomorrow it'll be my turn."

Gavin didn't dare to object. "Okay, let's do as you say."

"From today on, we live in separate rooms. I'll accompany you to get sterilized tomorrow. Before you get sterilized, we cannot have sex!"

Before Gavin could say anything, Amy was unhappy.

"Why should Gavin be sterilized? He's young. How can he do such an operation?"

"No way. I no longer trust Gavin. And male sterilization is much less harmful than female intrauterine device. Gavin, you always say you love me, so you'll make the sacrifice for me, right?"
