Chapter 2

How dare he say that to me?

Less than two years after our marriage, he began to be involved in frequent scandals.

Almost every time he shot a drama, there would be leaked photos of him having a private meeting with the heroine.

Many people said that he was a playboy.

I once questioned him with tears, but he said impatiently, "It's all a publicity stunt to fool the girls."

"What about those hotel photos?"

He rubbed his brows impatiently. "I just played with them. Why are you taking it so seriously?"

I looked at him in disbelief. "This is cheating!"

"Enough. Do you think other actors are clean? I've been very restrained. Don't go too far!"

Seeing my red eyes and aggrieved look, he softened his tone a little. "Yora, I have never had any feelings for them. Don't worry."

I overturned the table, breaking the dishes all over the floor.

Yorick was angry. He was usually gentlemanly and calm in front of the public, but in an instant, he became a violent beast.

"Stop causing trouble! No successful man will lack women. If you don't want to be Mrs. Jackson, there are plenty of women who want to be. If you didn't look like her..."

He stopped abruptly, but I understood what he meant.

I panicked.

I asked him tremblingly, "What do you mean I look like her?"

He smiled as if relieved. "Well, I married you because you look like another person."

I felt like I was going to suffocate.

I realized that I was just a substitute chosen by him.

I thought he loved me deeply, but he just treated me as a toy.

Finally, he mocked me. "Even though you know the truth, so what? Yolanda, can you leave me now? Your film contracts and advertisements are all under my control. Without me, you are nothing."

The pain of betrayal hadn't yet gone, and I was hurt by his blatant ridicule and threats.

What he said was right.

In the past few years, I was like a puppet, being led by him and trusting him wholeheartedly.

But after he revealed the truth, I felt painful and clear-headed.

Love might be fake, but my career was real.

I wasted my time in the unhappy marriage and didn't dare escape because I had always prioritized my career over my marriage and was used to having him lead my way.

In the entertainment industry, I had no say and could only rely on the resources provided by Yorick.

I was so weak that he could get me half-banned in the circle easily.

So I had to force myself to become stronger.

I didn't argue with him anymore but worked hard to shoot dramas.

To get more connections, I attended social events that I used to disdain.

I also joined a drama troupe and performed with them non-stop. I had to memorize hundreds of pages of dialogue at a time, and gradually, I was able to play the leading female role for nearly three hours.

Seeing that I was fully devoted to my work, Yorick thought I had figured it out and became more and more unscrupulous. One day, he brought a new female star into our house.

The female star was startled when she saw me in the room.

But she quickly reacted. Glancing at me indifferently, she hugged Yorick's neck and said affectionately, "Is this the person you are secretly married to? I thought it was the movie queen Ms. Wilson. I was jealous of her before."

Yorick tilted his head to look at me and said calmly, "Why did you believe the gossip?"

"You hugged her that day..."

Yorick's face changed. The girl knew she had said something wrong and quickly shut up.

I pretended I hadn't heard anything and poured them two glasses of water. "I'll leave first."

The next day, when I returned home, Yorick was sitting on the sofa wrapped in a bath towel.

He showed me a rare look of guilt and said gently, "Yolanda, I'm sorry. If you are bored, find someone to accompany you. As long as you don't cross the line, I don't mind."

I thought my heart wouldn't hurt anymore, but I didn't expect that he would always find a way to make me feel worse.

He indeed didn't care about me at all.

I thought Yorick was as indifferent as he said.

Unexpectedly, he was angry when hearing Luis call me Yora.

Yorick was so petty.

He looked straight at the stage and asked me fiercely, "What is your relationship with Luis?"

I stared at Luis on the stage, who was running towards me waving the trophy.

I smiled happily. "He confessed his love to me. Yorick, let's get a divorce."
