Chapter 2

Maybe my expression was terrifying, he hesitated and didn't say anything more.

It took a long time for Edgar to say, "Carly, you've changed... You used to be less dominant. You used to know how to take care of me and not suspect me. You wouldn't treat a divorced single mother with such malice."

He sighed and was disappointed in me.

It was as if I had done something unforgivable.

He felt like he was compromising with me, "Carly, apologize to Lindsey. She's pregnant, and she will have wild thoughts. It's not good for the baby."

"What does her child have to do with me? Did I make her pregnant? Why should I apologize to her?" I almost couldn't control my emotions, but I knew that this was in the company. If we argued, it would attract their attention.

I left the office, Edgar stared at me from inside but didn't say anything.

Lindsey was standing outside, holding a cup of coffee.

When she saw me, she passed by with a victorious smile and said in a low voice, "Do you know the power of first love? I'm just standing here and you lose."

Because of anger, I was trembling and finally fainted.

Before fainting, I heard Edgar's anxious voice, "Carly."

When I woke up again, I was in the hospital ward. I was receiving an IV drip and Edgar was sitting beside the bed, holding my other hand and looking at me.

When he saw me wake up, he hugged me tightly and his voice trembled, "Carly, you scared me... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scold you."

His eyes turned red and he was afraid of losing me.

At that moment, I felt that he loved me very much.

But I couldn't accept his connection with Lindsey.

I took his hand away, not wanting him to touch me.

He held me tightly and said, "Carly, I didn't know you were pregnant. The doctor just told me that women's hormones change after pregnancy, so it's easy to have wild thoughts. It's also my fault that I didn't reassure you. Don't worry, I have contacted some partners. There is a company that is short of a clerk. I will contact them tomorrow and let Lindsey go there to work.

She is just my past, and everything I did was just out of pity for her. You should know that I am soft-hearted, right? It is well known that I only love you, and... how I treat you is not only known to your friends but also your parents, right?"

At this moment, he was almost crying due to grievance.

His words kept me silent for a long time.

He would give me gifts that he had carefully prepared for every anniversary and holiday, and he would video chat with me whenever he was free when he was on a business trip. He would always visit my parents first on all holidays, and he gave me almost all his money.

He bought each anniversary gift from his own pocket money.

When I was on my period, he would take care of me and rub my belly.

He usually cooked, did housework, and helped me wash my socks.

None of my friends and parents would believe that he didn't love me.

Even I didn't believe that.

I took a deep breath and asked, "You won't contact her anymore, right?"

"I won't, I've blocked her on WhatsApp and her phone number." He showed me his phone, reassuring me, "You can check it, there's no trace of her. Carly, let's become a family of three... Let's get married."

He took out a box from his pocket and opened it, revealing a diamond ring.

I almost cried.

I was having a hard time accepting what had happened recently.

Seeing that I didn't say anything, he scratched his head in embarrassment and said, "I... We just celebrated the holidays a few days ago, and I don't have much money saved. This is not a real diamond, it's only worth more than 30 dollars, don't despise it. When we get married, we will buy a big diamond ring."

At that moment, he was embarrassed like a young boy.

I nodded moved and extended my finger.

The moment he put the ring on my finger, he immediately stood up with excitement, picked me up, and wanted to spin around. "Carly is going to marry me!"

I quickly held him down and pointed at the infusion needle in my other hand. He hurriedly put me down and then informed our parents that we were going to get married.

At the same time, because he was happy, he gave all employees of the company three days off.

"Carly, today's proposal was too hasty. I will prepare again in these three days and do it again." He kissed my forehead.

I couldn't help but smile.

I saw Lindsey again on the day I was discharged from the hospital.

Because Edgar was preparing to propose, he contacted a driver to pick me up.

Lindsey stood at the entrance of the hospital, holding her waist, looking at me with a smile. "Congratulations, Edgar wants to propose to you."

I stopped. I had been thinking a lot in the hospital these days. I didn't need to be so hostile to a divorced pregnant woman.

Moreover, Edgar deleted her on WhatsApp and her phone number.

"Thank you," I said to her.

She still smiled and said, "However, he may not be able to attend his proposal to you."

I stared at her coldly. When the driver called me, she still looked at me like a winner.
