Chapter 1

I licked the boots of my parents-in-law for five years and with their support, I married their only daughter, Serena Morscheck.

As soon as I became their son-in-law, I was appointed CEO of Morscheck Group and everything went smoothly from then on.

At a celebration party for a major project, my wife showed up with her pregnant belly and held arm in arm with her first love, Cedric Hoffman.

"Marrying a commoner like you who is not on the same level as my family is just a compromise. Now that Cedric and I have reconciled, the father of my baby is qualified to be the CEO of Morscheck Group. You are fired. Get out of here now."

I glanced at my parents-in-law who were hesitant to speak up and sighed. "You have no right to fire me. I'll give you one last chance. Abort the baby and break up with him. We can still be a family."

Everyone laughed at me for going crazy and wanting to live off someone.

I put my hands in my pockets and smiled. "You got it right, I do have the right to live off someone."

——

Hearing my response, the guests, who were also celebrities, fell silent for a moment.

Immediately, they were in an uproar.

"Mr. Wilhelm must be so angry and confused. If it weren't for the Morschecks, he wouldn't have everything he has today. Why is he bragging so much?"

"Why do you still call him Mr. Wilhelm? He's just a son-in-law. If he's fired, he will be back to his original place."

"If I were you, Maxime, I'd better give in. The child won't have your last name anyway. So what does it matter if it's not your own? Since you're going to be a father, you should be happy."

Amidst the ridicule, Serena frowned and looked at me with her usual sense of superiority.

"Maxime, you shouldn't talk to others with harsh words. You don't have capital yet, after all, you're nothing without me!"

I stared at her pretty face and thought of our past love and affection and I felt bad.

"After three years of marriage, you just said you don't want me anymore and you want to drive me out of the Morscheck Group. Have you ever thought about how to explain it to your mom and dad?"

Serena's face turned cold and her eyes filled with disgust. "If you hadn't tried to lick the boots of my parents, do you think you could marry me? We are from two different worlds after all. I can't live with you anymore. What qualifications do you have to be the CEO of Morscheck Group? Of course, my mom and dad will stand on my side."

"Is that so?" I crossed my arms casually, saying in an indifferent tone, "That's not necessarily true."

Seeing my confident expression, the guests were stunned.

"Maxime ... he looks so confident, is there any trump card in his hand?"

"Speaking of which, Serena was just an ordinary celebrity before. In the three years since Mr. Wilhelm took over the company, the market value has increased several times."

"Yes, not to mention this one billion four hundred million dollars project. Even if Morscheck Group goes bankrupt, it will be enough to support itself for several years."

Just as everyone started praising me, Cedric could not remain calm anymore.

He snorted and looked at me with contempt.

"No matter how capable you are, you are just an employee. Once you are fired, you will be worse than a dog. Look at your own status clearly. You are not like us who are born with good fortunes!"

I turned a deaf ear to his sarcastic words and asked Serena seriously, "Do you think so?"

Perhaps thinking of how hard I worked, Serena looked at me with a hint of pity.

"It's my decision to fire you and I can't change it. So, I'll give you fourteen thousand dollars and we can part ways in good terms."

I thought it was ridiculous and sneered. "You want to buy out my three years hardworking for just fourteen thousand dollars? Just adding two zeros to today's one billion four hundred million dollars project wouldn't even be enough."

She fixed her hair casually and sneered indifferently.

"You think it's unfair? But what qualifications do you have to talk to me about fairness? Maxime, you should remember that you didn't sign a contract, right? So even if I don't spend a penny to ask you to get out, it's normal. If you know what's best for you, just take the money and leave."
