A Son for A Son

“Eden… I think it's time! Please take me to the hospital,” I begged my husband to take me to the hospital during the eighth month of my pregnancy.

“No, I can't…” He said, his tone firm. His cold refusal sent shivers down my spine. But, he added, “My rivals are lurking beneath only to hurt my hier, Honey! Try to understand, we have to perform the surgery here.”

There was a huge risk in going through the C-section surgery at home but Eden insisted on doing it at home. He promised me he would not let anything happen to my child.

However, after giving birth, when I was still under medication, and was unconscious, I happened to hear the doctor’s conversation with Edan.

“Mr. Knight, You could arrange another right match for the heart of Miss Lyra’s child. Why must you take the life of Miss Ramona’s child to get his heart? After all, it's your child as well!” The doctor asked.

“It's not the time of discussion, doctor. Do your job quickly. I didn't let it come to the world for nothing. It was meant to be the donor of my child with Lyra. Sharing the same blood as me, they will have a high chance of matching,”

Edan's reply was cold and distant, as if he didn't even see our child as a person but as a tool to revive Lyra’s child.

Is this why he agreed to conceive a child? Only to rob his tiny organs and dump his body as if he was only a necessary medicine for Lyra’s child?

During five years of marriage, he never agreed to have a child. He always said he wasn't ready to take responsibility for being a little in the crimson world.

Considering his shabby business, I thought he was afraid of his children getting hurt. That's why he didn't want any child. But who had expected that he could be the first person to hurt my child.

It was not like he wasn't ready to take the responsibility of a child, he just didn't want to take the responsibility of my child, because for Lyra's child, he went so far as to kill a newly born baby.

No wonder, he was in a hurry to have me conceive a baby when Lyra was one month pregnant, and the doctor told them that their baby might have heart issues.

I couldn't even get to see what my baby looked like before he was taken out by Edan’s men. My heart was bleeding for him.

I wanted to get up and snatch the baby from their hands, protect him from these wolves like every mom would do at this very moment.

But, I was under heavy medication. I struggled hard, but couldn't get to move my fingers, let alone moving my body. I heard him crying, the first and last voice of my baby that I was never going to forget in my whole life.

After the baby was taken out, the Doctor asked Edan, “Mr. Knight, do you want to go and witness the heart transplant of your children?”

“No,” He refused bluntly. Doctor sighed in grief as he began, “Good decision, Mr. Knight! It's not easy to witness your child losing his life to save another. You should-”

“I trust my men. So, I don't need to be there in person. Besides, I have an important thing left to finish here. Only then will I go to see Lyra and my healthy child.”

Doctor and Edan said in unison. It wasn't that he could not see our child dying. He couldn't care any less about him. He was only staying to finish his dirty work as he continued, “I want a medicine that can destroy Ramona’s uterus, making her unable to bear a child.”

“Wh-What?” Doctor hesitated. He blurted out in desperation, “Mr Knight, you feed her the medicine that could lead to an early labor only to get her child one month early to donate a heart for Lyra's son.”

“She has just lost her child and her body is too weak because of the excess consumption of medicines. Are you sure you want to do this? It could lead to severe injuries to her body.”

“What if she finds out? What if she comes to know what you have done to her or her child?” He asked.

“That's the very reason I'm doing it, Doctor Steve. Her family is in no condition to help her. She can't turn to her family. She has only me to rely on. She can't harm Lyra or her child unless she has a capable child of her own.” He replied, his voice cold and distant.

“So, that's why you are doing it? You are afraid her rainbow child might avenge their older siblings’ death and harm Lyra and her son. You are just taking early measures to erase the future threat.” Doctor asked, his voice laced with surprise.

“That's right!” Edan replied, “Even if Lyra is married to someone else, I’ll make sure she and our child stays safe now and later.”

“And what about Miss Ramona? Don't you feel bad about her?” Doctor Steve asked. In his response, Edan took a long sigh, saying, “I’ll accompany her and take care of her if she suffers any side effects. But, that's the only thing I can do for her.”
